Hello, my name is James Hirsch and for my entire adult life I have been homeless. I struggled with addiction and have mental health issues as well. When I moved to Shelton, WA I was living in the shelter where I met Katrina and Michelle from Proactive Supportive Housing Services and at first, I did not believe they could help me, I really did not believe anyone could help me. I met with Katrina weekly as we began the process, and it was through determination, hard work and not giving up that led to qualifying housing. I am proof that it works! Having a place to live that is all my own speaks volumes to the work that they have done for me. We still meet and work on what it takes to continue to be housed and I appreciate that. I just want to show my gratitude. It's been a very long journey and I would not be where I am today without Proactive Supportive Housing Services. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope it inspires someone to want to have housing .
My name is Jessica Brown, but this testimonial isn't just about me. It's about my little family of 3 and how with the help of Proactive Supportive Housing Services and God of course, we are not only in our own place, but have been blessed with a home, working towards not just a job, but a career. Just 6 months ago we had just moved into a shelter after living in hotels and a little rv not intended for a family. We have a past like everyone does, and I could tell you all about the struggles we've overcome to get here, but the reality is we all have habits and hang-ups and sometimes one misguided decision can shatter what we called life. Then one day you wake up and realize you were never really living your life, but you were a slave to other people's ideas of what it should look like. When I met Michele, I remember her telling me this was a journey where I get to drive. I think I panicked at 1st because that has never been an option in my life. But as we have worked together and we made a pros & cons list for our home & reached out together, I applied, and 1st try we found our home. Then a lot of teamwork & diligence and 3 weeks later we had the keys. When given the option to keep working together my response was that it would be silly to stop now, we are just beginning. She has helped empower me to be who I always was meant to be, by believing in me & nudging me in the right direction. Both these ladies, I consider part of our team, I'm so grateful for them. Thank you, Michele & Katrina.
